Community
The attorneys and staff of Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP are dedicated to serving our community at large. Take a look at what we've been up to recently:
|
On Wednesday, June 11, 2008, Raleigh summer clerks (Andrea Fowler, Jeff Monroe, Mollie Livingston, and Kathryn Roebuck) and Stephanie Gaston participated in a local build for Habitat for Humanity. The clerks, along with clerks from other area law firms, participated in the build, especially impressive due to the 100+ temperature that day!

Susan G. Komen 5k Race for the Cure
Gregg Newton, Kathy Miles, Caroline Powell, Teresa Smith, Kelli Boswell, Cindy Broussard, Amy Pfeiffer, Greer Vanderberry, Meghan Knight, Buck Copeland, and Jared Dutton (along with over 23,700 other runners, walkers, survivors, and volunteers) hit the streets in Raleigh on June 21 for the 12th annual Susan G. Komen 5k Race for the Cure. Gregg Newton finished the race in approximately 18 minutes, just three minutes shy of the fastest runner of the day! Thousands crowded the streets near Meredith College for the memorable and inspiring event. |

|
Organizers said they hoped the event raised around $2 million, which will be distributed among local organizations that support breast cancer education, patient services, and research for a cure. The CSH team alone raised over $4,000. Stephanie Williams and Gina Bertulis couldn't make the race, but were a big part of the CSH team's fundraising initiative. Thanks to everyone who supported the team and we are looking forward to next year!

CSH Collects Over $4,000 in its
2007 Annual Holiday Giving Campaign
- During its annual “Holiday Giving Campaign” organized by the firm’s newest associates, Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog was able to raise over $4000 to help provide a warmer and happier holiday season to families and children in the Triangle.
- The money was used to purchase gifts for several families in need this holiday season and gifts for Guardian ad Litem children as well.
- The families were nominated to the firm by Social Services, attorneys and staff.
- The firm has the families and Guardian ad Litem children create “wish lists” of things they need, and some things they just want, and then raises money from in-firm donations to fund the project. In lieu of donating cash, employees and staff can also help wrap, deliver, or buy gifts directly.
- Several outside businesses also supported the project by donating prizes for the firm’s employees who purchased raffle tickets. 42nd Street Oyster Bar, Skin Sense Spa, Double Tree Hotels, Heritage Golf, NC Wine Council, and Goodberry’s Ice Cream all sponsored the Campaign.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our 2007 Annual Holiday Giving Campaign!

In May, 2007, several members of the Charlotte office of Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP participated in the American Cancer Society’s 2007 Relay for Life event held at E.E. Waddell High School. Thanks to the hard work and donations of many people, Team CSH was able to raise over $4,000 towards the fight against cancer and was honored at the event as a sponsor.
For the second year in a row, Attorney Ken Coble has volunteered for and served as team captain for Team CSH.
We also made quite a name for ourselves by serving what soon became known as the “best barbecue EVER” thanks to the master cooking skills of Ken Coble's dad. Thanks to everyone who gave their time and money to help out with such a great cause! |

March, 2007 - Project Playground, Katrina Aid Project Participation
Activities for Committee Members During the
ABA Employment Rights and Responsibilities Committee Midwinter Meeting

Attorney Rachel Esposito was a CLE panel speaker related to the recent United States Supreme Court decisions in Employment Law for this event. The committee members were given the opportunity to participate in Project Playground, a grass-roots public/private community program spearheaded by the Friends of New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) in partnership with area communities participating in playground renovation and revitalization.
 |
Hurricane Katrina seriously damaged neighborhood and community playgrounds and many have fallen into a state of major disrepair since then. The members of the ABA Employment Rights and Responsibilities Committee (ERRC) were given the opportunity to help make repairs to the Cuccia-Byrnes playground. Below are some photos showing their efforts in repairing the concession stand of this playground.
|
Pictured here with Rachel Esposito is another volunteer (name unknown) and a young neighborhood boy named Jonathan painting a wall of the concession stand.
Jonathan lives a block away from the playground. He was so excited to see people making repairs, he joined in and helped!
