Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP (CSH Law) today announced that Carl Newman has joined the firm as an associate based in the firm’s Raleigh office.

Newman joins CSH Law after spending the last two and a half years representing the City of Chicago in over two dozen state and federal appellate cases. In his previous position, he handled cases from the simple slip-and-fall, to the multi-million-dollar tax dispute, to a variety of constitutional claims against municipal actions and ordinances.  He also previously served as a staff clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit where he assisted in drafting dispositions of over two dozen appellate civil cases as well as working in various legal aid roles. 

An active member of the legal community, Newman serves on a number of bar association and bar foundation boards and charitable projects. He was awarded the Chicago Bar Association Young Lawyers Section – Rising Star Award in 2015.

He received his law degree from the University of Chicago with honors and his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
