Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP today announced that the National Foundation for Judicial Excellence (NFJE) recently created the Richard T. Boyette Award for Outstanding Contributions to the NFJE. Boyette is the Chair of the Professional Negligence, Products Liability, and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Groups at Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP, and is the firm’s general counsel.

The “Richard T. Boyette Award for Outstanding Contributions to the National Foundation for Judicial Excellence” award is designed to recognize individuals or corporations who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in judicial education, show exceptional creativity and dedication in program development, excel in fundraising activities on behalf of NFJE and/or exemplify professionalism in promoting the case for a well-educated, independent judiciary.

The NFJE was created by DRI-The Voice of the Defense Bar in 2004 while Richard was president of DRI, to support an independent, well-informed judiciary in order to preserve excellence and fairness in the civil justice system.  The NFJE presents an annual judicial educational symposium for state court appellate judges from around the country, dealing with issues of importance to the civil justice system and the defense community.

With nearly 40 years of experience, Richard’s career has included broad civil litigation, professional liability and product liability defense and commercial real estate transactional experience. He is also recognized as one of the top mediators in North Carolina, having mediated over 1,500 disputes in a broad range of subject matters.
