Litigation is the primary focus of Ryan’s practice. He has significant experience in litigating high exposure personal injury matters, including wrongful death, nursing home abuse, and sexual abuse cases. Serious personal injury matters are not the only focus of Ryan’s practice, he regularly handles employment matters, including position statements to the EEOC, trucking and transportation claims, and construction defect claims.
Ryan is frequently called upon by local governments to serve as outside counsel and litigate matters on their behalf. Ryan’s representation of local governments includes several officer involved shootings, civil rights litigation, and contract disputes. He also has significant experience in appellate advocacy before both state and federal appellate courts, including submitting amicus briefs on behalf of interested parties.
Ryan is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the West Virginia Bar Association, and the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys. He served as an adjunct professor at Gaston College where he taught civil liability for police officers and correctional officers. While in law school, Ryan served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Thomas E. Johnston, United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
Ryan was born and raised in West Virginia and decided to trade the mountains for the coast. When not serving his clients, he enjoys traveling and relaxing on the beach.
