Cranfill Sumner LLP today announced Ryan Shuirman and Charlie Raphun have joined the firm’s Raleigh Office. Shuirman is a Partner with the firm, and Raphun is Of Counsel.

Ryan Shuirman, a Partner at Cranfill Sumner, will focus his practice in medical malpractice law. He brings with him more than 23 years of litigation experience with a background in the healthcare industry, specifically medical malpractice.  Over the years he has represented physicians in emergency medicine, neurosurgery, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, anesthesiology, general surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, radiology, pathology, hematology/oncology, thoracic surgery, and pediatrics specialties, in addition to representing hospitals throughout the state. He also represents healthcare providers before the North Carolina Medical Board.

Ryan is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Wake Forest University School of Law.

Charlie Raphun will be joining the firm’s business and employment law team. He brings more than 30 years of business and transactional law experience, including knowledge in contracts, intellectual property, international business, telecommunications, and privacy law. He is a registered Patent Attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  In addition to practicing law, he is also a CPA, and a Certified Information Privacy Professional. He is a former military attorney and officer, who served as the Staff Judge Advocate for the U.S. Army Reserve Legal Command. 

Charlie is a graduate of the University of Florida, the U.S. Army War College, and the University of North Carolina School of Law.
