We continue to make most of our new attorney hires from our Summer Associate Program. We believe our program is the best way for us to get to know potential new hires, and for law students to get an extended look at our practice and our culture.
About our Summer Associate Program
Our six-week program is designed to give students the ability to have a second employment experience in an often unpredictable legal job market. During the program, summer associates work on research and writing projects in a variety of practice areas. While written work product is essential, we also value getting our summer associates out of the office to observe our attorneys at hearings, mediations, depositions, trials, and other daily activities. We strive to get to know our summer associates in and out of the office. Our summer associates and attorneys look forward to the social events that are another important part of the summer experience. At the end of the summer, we feel that our summer associates have an accurate view of what life is like at Cranfill Sumner LLP.
Our summer associates, like our attorneys, come from a variety of law schools. We welcome all law students who have a genuine interest in calling North Carolina their home and we routinely interview law students with strong credentials who are drawn to a litigation-based practice.
How to Apply
On-Campus Interviews (OCIs)
Each fall we interview second-year law students for summer clerk positions at several different law schools. Students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Campbell University, North Carolina Central University, and Wake Forest University may apply to Cranfill Sumner’s summer clerk program directly through your law school’s career services office, typically via the Symplicity platform.
Law Students at other Law Schools
Each summer, we invite interested and qualified students who are attending law schools not listed above to submit their cover letter, resume, and transcript through the Summer Clerk posting on our Careers page. Submissions are accepted starting at the beginning of each summer and will remain open through the fall selection process. When active, you can find the link for submissions on our main Careers page.
