On Nov. 9, Wilmington Partner Colleen Shea served as a volunteer at a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center for New Hanover County in Wilmington.  Colleen was one of several volunteer attorneys who offered brief advice and counsel regarding landlord/tenant law, consumer law and insurance law.   Wilmington and surrounding towns and counties sustained significant damage from Hurricane Florence and were declared federal disaster areas.  All three CSH offices took part in numerous collections of emergency items and money to assist North Carolinians affected by this tragic storm.  Although Colleen’s home and office both suffered damage from the storm, she stated: “My family and my firm are lucky in that our damage is fixable.  Too many around me are not as fortunate.  If I can offer any help by volunteering in this capacity, I am proud to do so.”

The event was offered to help those residents who were impacted by the recent hurricanes in North Carolina.

The event was organized by Legal Aid of North Carolina, the North Carolina Pro Bono Resource Center, the North Carolina Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and the North Carolina Bar Foundation. It is being offered at FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in New Bern and Wilmington on Fridays from Oct. 19-Nov. 16.
