On Feb. 4, Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP attorneys volunteered as judges for the High School Mock Trial Competition in Wilmington. Deedee Gasch and Elizabeth King served as judges for the event at the New Hanover County Courthouse.
Ten teams of high school students from the Wilmington area competed in the event by trying a mock civil case involving a high school student who was pepper-sprayed by a School Resource Officer after being suspected of bringing a handgun to school.
The High School Mock Trial Competition is sponsored by the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and the Carolina Center for Civic Education. For more information, visit http://ncmocktrial.org/competitions/regionals/wilmington.
