(WDI) Downtown Economic Series event on Dec. 4 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The event’s focus is The Garner Report: A Case Study for Funding Catalytic Economic Development Projects – Oklahoma City MAPS Initiative.

Featured speaker Jane Jenkins, President of Downtown Oklahoma City Inc., will explain how Oklahoma City has pursued and succeeded in revitalizing its downtown region through strategic planning and economic development initiatives.  Since 2009, Jenkins has overseen the revitalization of downtown Oklahoma City and is past chair of the International Downtown Association.

Chris Hinnant, an attorney in the Wilmington office of Cranfill Sumner, currently serves as the secretary for the WDI Board of Directors. WDI was originally formed as D.A.R.E. (Downtown Area Revitalization Effort) in 1977 as a public-private partnership between the City of Wilmington, New Hanover County and the private sector. Today, the six main areas of focus for WDI are business recruitment, business retention, quality of life, developer services, fundraising and public outreach. The mission of the organization is to promote the economic growth and development of downtown Wilmington.
