Kara Gansmann, an Elder Law and Estate Planning attorney with Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP (Cranfill Sumner), has been named the Chair of the Cranfill Sumner Elder Law and Estate Planning Practice Group.

She is an excellent and accomplished attorney who will lead our Elder Law and Estate Planning Practice as it continues to grow and will provide counsel and guidance to its clients,” said John D. Martin, Managing Partner of the Wilmington office of Cranfill Sumner.

Gansmann is a Partner at Cranfill Sumner and is based in the firm’s Wilmington office. She counsels individuals and families on tactics for estate planning, asset-protection, and long-term care planning.  In addition, she drafts wills, powers of attorney, and trusts, including pet trusts, revocable and irrevocable living trusts, and special needs trusts. She also advises clients on eligibility for certain public benefits like Veterans’ Special Pension and prepares applications for Medicaid and Special Assistance.

She makes regular presentations on the importance of estate planning and is a prolific writer who has authored regular Insights columns and Insightful Discussions for the online edition of the Greater Wilmington Business Journal.

She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and the University of North Dakota School of Law.
