Cranfill Sumner LLP attorney Zac Bolitho has been appointed as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Florida.  Bolitho will leave the firm to serve in the Pensacola Division of the Court after practicing in the firm’s White Collar, Government Investigations & Special Matters Practice Group.

During his tenure at the firm, Bolitho represented businesses and individuals in high-stakes criminal, civil and regulatory matters.  In addition to his work in federal and state courts, he advised clients facing scrutiny by the Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, Food and Drug Administration, Departments of Treasury, Commerce and Homeland Security in a diverse range of investigations and proceedings.

Bolitho earned his law degree summa cum laude from The Ohio State University in 2007 and his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from the University of Mount Union in 2004.  He had previously served as Chief of Staff to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein at the Department of Justice, and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Tennessee.  Bolitho began his career clerking for Judge David W. McKeague of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.  In addition to his practice at Cranfill Sumner, Bolitho was a tenured professor at Campbell University Law School where he taught a variety of courses, including federal crimes, federal courts, and criminal procedure.

“Zac has obtained unparalleled results for our clients and made immeasurable contributions to this practice and our firm,” said White Collar Practice Group Chair Patrick Mincey.  “In addition to his award-winning work as a professor and legal scholar, Zac’s depth of litigation experience — first as a federal prosecutor, at the highest levels of Main Justice, and most recently his private practice in the defense bar—will distinguish him on the federal bench.  We are proud of, and honored by, his commitment to public service in the judiciary.”
