Paul L. Cranfill went inactive effective in 2019 and is officially a Retired Member of the North Carolina State Bar.  Paul practiced civil and workers’ compensation litigation in the firm’s Raleigh office beginning in 1969.  Paul was a founding member of the firm, served on the firm’s Management Committee and chaired the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Section.  Paul retired from partnership in 2010 and served in an Of Counsel role through 2014.

Prior to retirement, Paul defended cases in the District and Superior Courts of North Carolina, the U.S. District Courts, the Industrial Commission, as well as the Appellate Courts of North Carolina.

Paul concentrated his practice in the Workers’ Compensation Law Practice Group. Paul was a member of the original Workers’ Compensation Specialization Committee that established the requirements that attorneys must meet in order to qualify as Workers’ Compensation Specialists. He was on the State Bar committee that wrote the original Workers’ Compensation Specialty examination.

Paul served on committees for the Commissioner of Insurance, the Industrial Commission, the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, the North Carolina Association of Self-Insurers, and the North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry (now known as North Carolina Chamber of Commerce).
