Cranfill Sumner Attorneys successfully* defended three Emergency Department physicians and two Emergency Department physician assistants in a multi-week medical malpractice trial in eastern North Carolina. Plaintiff’s claims involved allegations regarding multiple Emergency Department visits with various complaints by the Plaintiff, who eventually presented at her last return ED visit with signs and symptoms which led to the diagnosis of a spinal epidural abscess. Plaintiff’s claims involved allegations regarding failure to diagnose the spinal epidural abscess. The Plaintiff claimed Defendants’ alleged negligence led to the permanent paralysis of a 50 year old working mother, and the Plaintiff projected significant economic damages. After the presentation of the Emergency Department physicians and physician assistants’ case, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the Emergency Department physicians and physician assistants, finding no negligence.
