David D. Ward and Christopher M. Hinnant won a hung jury, 8 to 3 for the defense for a cardiothoracic surgeon in a case involving an aortic aneurysm in a 20 year old patient. The plaintiff alleged the surgeon failed to timely operate on the aneurysm on Friday and instead waited until after the weekend on Monday. The aneurysm ruptured Sunday morning resulting in the patient’s death.
